Easter has up to our own times, been a religious holiday in Scandinavia. It is the oldest and largest festival of Christianity. In Christian countries Easter is celebrated to remind people about the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Easter week starts with Palm Sunday, commemorating Christ’s triumphant entry in to Jerusalem. Though the most important days of the Holy week are the Good Friday and the Easter Sunday. According to the religion, Jesus died on the Good Friday and therefore this day is a day of sorrow and grieving. The Easter Sunday is characterized by joy and happiness since this is the day when Jesus arose. Nowadays most of the Scandinavian people celebrate Easter by going to church and by having a big Easter dinner with the family. Other common traditions are to decorate eggs for the dinner and to receive candy in hidden Easter eggs.
