Lisa Tagesson is a Swedish artist, she visited TCG Nordica(Kunming,China) from 2008.June.1 to Aug.31.
Here is the introduction from artist self about what her works about and what she has done in Kunming.
Words from Lisa:
I work with creating my own fabrics as well as with manipulating existing fabrics. I am interested in the integration of fabrics, the body and clothing. I create my own methods, using stitching to shape the fabric so that it has a special relationship to the body.
Important aspects in my work are craft work, knowledge of traditional techniques of costume-making and the Swedish tradition with connections to other countries. In my three month residencestudio at TCG Nordica, I worked with patterns made by pleating and folding techniques together with hand stitches and embroidery. I found a lot of inspiration in the textiles from Yunnan ethnic minorities.
I took part in Ms. Shasha’s project OVOP (One village one project) and hold a one day self portrait workshop with free embroidery.

On September 6, 2008, we are going to hold art exhibition for two Yunnan young artists, Zhang Xingwang and Yan Renkui. These two artists used to study in The Middle School Attached to Yunnan Art Institute and Art School of Yunnan Art Institute later, and both of them are with solid foundation of academic education.
The paintings of Zhang Xingwang are about inflated or shriveled balloons. Those flesh-feeling balloons are attached by untold desires; or the impulses and desires hidden in flesh are debunked by balloons, and uneasy and anxious desires are uncontrollably burning and outpouring. This perhaps is the motivation and reason for the artist to concern about balloons, which are made to be symbols of art, and a metaphor left by artist for this generation of people.
The paintings of Yan Renkui are about human bodies in closed spaces, flying or struggling, screaming or entertaining, or doing nothing. Most of those human bodies are with strong and tense muscles, exaggerated gestures and rather dramatic effect. The depictions of those human bodies show that the artist has been trained under realism and estheticism since long ago. In those paintings, there are faces on the wall and light smoke coming out of pot, which is a hint of super-reality intervening power. As an enthusiastic man with dreams, how can he get along with himself in such a closed space? Or how can he escape? These are the sharp conflicts deeply felt by the artist at the bottom of his heart.
Two artists have their own rules and principles in handling their brushwork, color, form and tactile impression of paintings, which shows both of their solid realism foundation and aesthetic taste of academism. Though the paintings of those two artists look irrelevant, their spiritual appeals are about human bodies, as individuals. How can people survive and develop in such a complicated, alluring but illusory world? This is the question raised by artists, and also the struggle felt by plenty of people. Their artworks are just like a mirror, standing in our heart.

KMOV is…
KMOVstudios is a creative multi-media engine that has, since 2002, been involved in service-oriented media projects. Our focus is to use our gifts in various projects for the benefit of friends and family worldwide. Such works include music videos and filmmaking in Chicago’s inner-city neighborhoods, public murals in New Mexico and Guizhou, art collaborations and education with secondary and elementary school students via music, film, and painting; also shorts and documentaries, web design, illustration, and music recording.Perspective…
KMOVstudios views art and media first as a gift, and second as an offering: we reap of our experience, and present the best of these multimedia “crops” with joy and thanksgiving. Our work represents a journey, both personal and generational. We are vessels, full of good things received from our fathers and mothers; art is a link, a powerful instrument for communication with the next generation. We seek to be a part of the dialogue that connects the Source to the future…and one who drinks water ought to remember the source.Nordica, September 2008…
“Transparencies: records of a journey traveled” includes the works of KMOVstudios’ friends from Beijing, Guizhou, and Yunnan. Transparency is a quality of something that allows light to pass through it, so that objects behind can be distinctly seen. This idea is the hinge upon which the responses to our individual journeys in this exhibit swing. These photographs and paintings are the responses of people on the road, passing through vestiges of culture and society, and witness to the timeless things experienced through an ephemeral present.KMOV, August 2008
