We would like to invite you to the opening of our new exhibition-
‘Dream and Reality ‘ Oil Painting Exhibition by artists Bao Fusheng and Li Fan on Thursday November 30 at 8 PM.
In the film ‘Run Lola, Run’, the character Lola, with her dazzling red hair, is seen running to commit a bank robbery and then running again with her boyfriend away from the scene. For me Lola is running from reality to a dream. As she finds out that she is not satisfied with reality she is falling into a dream world over and over again.
Reality is always like this, never entirely the same as the dream. This leads people to strive for their dreams. Dreams are like a beautiful landscape, with stunning flowers, amazing animals and the Jiangnan courtyard covered in morning mist, everything combining to bring feelings of pleasure and relaxation. Reality, however, is very different with the pressures of living, the dread of death and inner struggles. This huge chasm between the dream and the reality always brings disappointment.
The pressure of dealing with the disappointment of reality leads us to feel helpless and unable to breath. We cannot change the reality, so either we exist in silence or strive for the dream until the body disappears from this life.
Artists Bao Fusheng and Li Fan’s work explores this difference between dream and reality and our crossing between the two.
