Every February, candy, flowers, and gifts are exchanged between loved ones
all over the world, in the name of St. Valentine. There are a lot of
different legends about who Saint Valentine was and how he became
associated with this ancient rite
According to one legend Valentine was a priest who served during the third
century in Rome. He continued to perform marriages for young lovers in
secret even though it was forbidden by Emperor Claudius II. Although the
truth behind the Valentine legends is murky, the stories certainly
emphasize his appeal as a sympathetic, heroic, and, most importantly,
romantic figure.
