Pianist Mari Salli, Finland

Mari Salli, a graduate of Finland Sibelius-Academy and Turku Conservatory, studied piano with professors Nijole Kasperaviciute (Russia), Markku Poyhonen and Marketta Kosonen (Finland). She has wide experience in performing as a solo pianist, chamber musician and symphony orchestra soloist. She has worked as a piano teacher in different countries teaching students of various ethnic backgrounds. She has also organized various music and culture exchange events in Finland, the U.S. and China.

Liao Qiyu

Liao Qiyu graduated from Yunnan Normal University Art Department in 1975. First she taught music at Yunnan Province Acrobatic Troupe, then at Yunnan Normal University and later at Kunming Vocational Arts College and Yunnan Arts Institute. She has performed widely as a singer and in 1987 she participated in the third national minority singing competition and she received an award for outstanding singers. She has held recitals in Paris and India. She has also performed in New York, Switzerland and many Chinese cities.

Liao Qiyu wrote lyrics to “Green Path and Rainbow,” which is the first scene cantata performed in Yunnan. She has also translated English music articles into Chinese. For the past three years, she has volunteered as the music advisor with the Gong Dong Qing Miao Choir from the Yunnan Songming County.

Huang Shan graduated from the Music Department of Yunnan Art Institute in 2004 specializing in playing the Chinese violin (erhu). Since 2004 she has been working as a professional musician in the Folk Dance and Music Department of Yunnan Provincial Theater.
Huang Shan is a talented performer of classical Chinese music. She is also experienced in improvising with Western musicians. Besides performing in China, Huang Shan has also performed in Sweden, Denmark and Norway.

Christian Studler studied flute at the University of Music in Zurich/Winterthur. At the age of 19 he continued studies in Paris and Freiburg, Germany with the Professor Aurèle Nicolet. Studler also took Master Classes with J. Galway and M. Moyse in London. He is a prize winner of national and international competitions. At the age of 22, he started to play as the solo flutist in the Symphony Orchestra of St. Gallen, Switzerland and since 1979 he has been playing in the Bern Symphony Orchestra. He has also played in the Tonhalle-Orchestra of Zurich for two years and as the solo flutist in the Festival Orchestra of Lucerne. Studler has worked as the Flute Professor in the Bern Music University since he was 24 years old. As a soloist he has worked with several conductors like Marcello Viotti, Okko Kamu, Gustav Kuhn, Peter Maag, Peter Gülke, Ivan Anguélov and Edmond de Stoutz.
Studler works currently as the solo flutist in the Bern Symphony Orchestra and Professor at the Bern Music University (Hochschule der Künste Bern) in Switzerland.
