对唐志刚而言，艺术总是追求打破界限和表达难以言表的事物。
当我还是个孩子时，一种模糊的感觉推动着我去创新。是什么导致了这种模糊感？我不知道。”创库艺术家、云南艺术学院教授说。
近来一个艺术评论家认为唐“试图超前认识社会”。通过这样做，唐从记忆里得到很多东西。作为一个退伍军人，唐将军旅生活和他早期职业中的制度用作创作的主题。他近期的系列作“儿童会议”就与这个主题有关。毫无疑问在昆明土生土长的艺术家的创造性发展中，唐6年前开始创作的系列作“儿童会议”独辟蹊径，开创了一个新领域。
“我感到我已来到一个实际与理想交汇的共同点 。如果你没有足够的重视，二者将会相互倾斜交错，那么这个共同点是很难达到的。” 他交叉自己的两个食指以说明这一问题。
就近期在香港、纽约和巴黎的展会看，唐有理由对会议的另一方面—-艺术家和社会间的关系，感到满意。
“我想人们之所以欣赏我的艺术，是因为他们能从中认出自己和自己所处的境遇。”

中国面孔

提到中国面孔，我的脑海中会即刻浮现出张晓刚、岳敏君、方力钧、王广义、杨少斌等艺术家的作品，他们以不同的视角窥见了中国某一人群的生存状态，但让我产生震撼和共鸣的艺术家唐志冈《儿童会议》中的儿童面孔，我认为更为典型、有更为广泛的代表性。
由于既是唐志冈的同行又是晚辈的原因，我一直很关注他的绘画《儿童会议》的演进过程，从1998年开始描绘成年人开会的场景到后来描绘儿童模仿成年人开会，以一种寓言化的手法展现了他内心对周遭环境和人生境遇宿命般的无奈与恐慌，唐志冈笔下的儿童开会场景，弥漫着暴力、血腥、权力争斗、欲望、恐惧……在红色、绿色、灰色交织的画面中，我们感受到了共同的历史记忆，这也是他的画让艺术家以及艺术圈以外的许多普通人共鸣的原因！人在童年时期就已烙上了成人世界的影子，他们被一种无形的力量所左右，裹挟进统一意识型态的模式中，这些儿童具备了最典型的中国面孔，这种典型不仅在于他们的装束、肤色、五官的特征，更重要的还是他们行为和气质中透露出来的一种微妙的、共同的特征。“三岁看大”，这是中国民间流传的一句谚语，透过这些儿童的面孔和行为，我们清楚地看到了他们的未来，在中国这个几个世纪以来长期大一统的中央集权的政治体制下，是否人性中的某些方面一直是被压抑着的，没有被合理地释放出来，以至于要通过暴力的方式发泄出来？《儿童会议》以一种既残酷又幽默的绘画语言，像一面镜子折射出了人世间恶的一面，在画中，我们看不到愤怒和批判，只有潜在的恐慌以及自嘲式的幽默和无奈，也许人永远逃脱不掉内心的梦魇，他越是成长，就越近地走近自己的内心，走近童年的记忆，唐志冈正是通过绘画一步步地走向内心，走进童年的阴影中。
《儿童会议》的用色也是颇为独特的，粉灰、粉红、粉绿、粉紫等颜色的运用，再加上轻盈的大块面的笔触，营造出的是一个褪色的、虚化的、舞台般的效果，但正是这种虚化的舞台化的处理，更强烈、明晰地传递出记忆感、时间感、历史感和寓言化特征，在貌似戏拟的、游戏的情境后面，是作者冷峻地、有距离地观看的视角，为我们勾勒出一幕幕人类生活中正在上演的荒诞剧，这是许多年以来已经上演过并且以后还将继续上演的……
